The goal was for my infographic was to appeal to those who currently own a house cat, or who is interested in buying a house cat and is curious about the emotional benefits. My purpose in creating a poster with this topic is to give a rebuttal on the stigma that has been placed on cats. By showcasing my information in a positive light, I aim to have those view felines in a happier narrative, which could lead to the decision of adopting a cat and providing them a forever home.
Part of this project required extensive amounts of research into my selected topic after getting approval from my professor. I delved into any factual article I found find about human and feline observation, stress receptors, psychological needs, and more. After collecting my research, I designed four quirky cat silouettes for the final design of my project. I had them looking in different directions to encourage the viewer to direct their attention to the information on the page.
The start of my infographic required a detailed style guide to support the graphical elements shown on the printed piece. In the style guide, I included the colour palette, typography, visual elements and the iconography that would be paired to various facts and information. The colour palette was inspired by a cats vision spectrum, so they would be able to "view" the poster the same way a human could.
As for the remainder of my stylistic choices, my round, bold typeface plays well into the intended playful tone of my infographic, and meshes with the dark contrast of the vectorized black cats. Each designed icon correlates to a designated section in the graphic, and is meant to offer a sense of credibility and emphasis to the title.
With the design of my infographic, I had a hard time finding the balance between visual elements and text. Temporal Infographics rely on informing the viewer, so I had to make sure that the visuals didn’t drown out the main point that was being portrayed.
At the end of my production, I felt like I better understood the use of space and colour in design, and how you can utilize such elements to create a beautiful piece that still serves to be informative and intelligent. I found that I quite enjoyed the research and design aspect of a temporal infographic, and with my gained experience would love to try my hand at it again.
