My overall goal was to effectively follow the directions of my superiors and take the assets given to me to create an ad that represents the Humber Esports brand as a whole. My design's purpose was to communicate brand event information and providing exciting and relevant visuals.
I begin my process by debriefing with another student graphic designer my senior and receiving the necessary assets required for the finished advertisement. Usually, a small description, date, time, and location must be present in the final design. Then, we decided on what iconography and main images that complimented the overall message and existing brand of Humber Esports.
On Adobe Illustrator, I design two renditions of the same advertisement. One for Instagrams dimensions, and one for Twitter. If necessary, I would also make an extra rendition to fit the dimensions of a letter sized paper for print advertisement. After I finish my digital drafts, I would then recieve feedback from my employers and make changes on my design based on the given critique.
The restrictive nature of the event advertisements meant that I had to stay within a hyperspecific quota, which is something that I wasn’t used to doing in my designs. This time, I was representing a brand and I struggled with the pressure and expectation that came with that.
I quickly began to understand the effective nature of frequent communication with your superiors, and became less hesitant to ask for help even if I felt that the question was minuscule.
